Home, Sweet, PICU??

Today, June 2, Isla is 15 days post-transplant and she is still in the PICU. We had a brief journey to the step-down transplant unit, but less than 24 hours later they brought her back to the PICU. The reason is she has a slight cold (rhinovirus) and they put her back on high-flow oxygen.

Fifteen days in the PICU, plus the week prior to transplant in the hospital means Alysia has been living at the Georgetown University Hospital. When we’re able to come visit, she is able to get out for a little bit, but she is rightfully hesitant to venture too long or too far from the hospital at any given time.

Isla is living for all the cuddles and Alysia was given the greenlight to nurse again–a gift for both of them.

Madison came to visit Isla yesterday and we were so happy to hear how well she’s been doing since her surgery.

This is a marathon, not a sprint, but I know leaving the PICU is high on our minds because that means it’s one step closer to leaving the hospital. One day at a time is all we can do right now.
