Today was a day with significant breakthroughs. After a busy morning of therapy sessions Jake headed into his vocal cord procedure. The procedure was a success! The ENT team was able to add filler to his left vocal cord to help it close properly. They were also able to do it with much less sedation than they originally anticipated. The best part of the day was the report from the medical team. The doctors told us three or four different times just how proud they were of Jake. He handled the entire procedure like a warrior.
While he spent the afternoon tired and sore, we were already able to hear the difference in his voice. This procedure was an important next step. Now that his vocal cords are closing, we are looking forward to a swallow study scheduled in the next few days. We are so hopeful that this study will show the improvement needed to finally get him some real food. After eight weeks, we will all be celebrating!
The momentum isn’t slowing down. We are now setting our sights on Monday for his 8-week Cardiac Cath. This is a major milestone in checking the health and function of his heart and liver. Following that, the plan is to move him up to the rehab floor for an intensive burst of physical, occupational, and speech therapies to prepare him for the final goal.
He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be amazed. Psalm 40:3
