An Unexpected Trip Back to Duke
Last night, Magnolia and her family had to make the difficult trip back to Duke after they noticed blood in Magnolia’s vomit. The transplant team wanted to be cautious with the situation, so they advised the family to bring her back in.
So far, Magnolia has handled everything incredibly well. She underwent a scoping procedure to determine what was causing the bleeding. During the procedure, the doctors found several ulcers in her throat and esophagus, as well as around the opening of her stomach.
They also determined that her NG tube had been positioned too far in and may have been causing additional irritation to those areas. The team applied medication directly around the ulcerated areas to help with healing and pulled the NG tube farther out to reduce the irritation.
Her family is so thankful that the doctors were able to identify what was causing the bleeding and make the necessary adjustments to help Magnolia heal.
As of now, Magnolia remains admitted so her medical team can monitor her closely and make sure the bleeding does not continue. Yet, through everything she continues to go through, Magnolia still finds a reason to smile. 💛
Un regreso inesperado a Duke
Anoche, Magnolia y su familia tuvieron que hacer el difícil viaje de regreso a Duke después de notar sangre en el vómito de Magnolia. El equipo de trasplante quiso tomar todas las precauciones necesarias ante la situación, por lo que les recomendó regresar al hospital.
Hasta el momento, Magnolia ha enfrentado todo increíblemente bien. Le realizaron una endoscopia para determinar qué estaba causando el sangrado. Durante el procedimiento, los médicos encontraron varias úlceras en su garganta y esófago, así como alrededor de la entrada de su estómago.
También determinaron que su sonda NG estaba colocada demasiado adentro y que posiblemente estaba causando irritación adicional en esas áreas. El equipo aplicó medicamento directamente alrededor de las zonas afectadas por las úlceras para ayudar con la sanidad y retiró un poco la sonda NG para reducir la irritación.
Su familia está profundamente agradecida de que los médicos hayan podido identificar la causa del sangrado y realizar los ajustes necesarios para ayudar a Magnolia a sanar.
Por ahora, Magnolia permanece hospitalizada para que su equipo médico pueda monitorearla de cerca y asegurarse de que el sangrado no continúe. Y aun en medio de todo lo que sigue enfrentando, Magnolia continúa encontrando una razón para sonreír. 💛
