Oakland that is, my home! I left SLC on Sunday, July 26 so I have been home a little over a week. I’m a new man, but Oakland remains the same – for better and worse!

I really have nothing to complain about, only some abdominal discomfort and low energy level. But I’m walking for exercise and going into my WeWork office M-F 9am-3:30pm to pursue part-time work, write blogs (on both my recovery and thoughts on my “kidney journey” re: healthcare design), and peer review HERD Journal articles. I expect my energy will come back soon as I feel pretty good – better than before my transplant.

So, things are moving ahead. I recently was accepted into the Planetree Global Consulting Network (GCN), a network of consultants who help healthcare organizations implement and sustain person-centered care. I’m hoping some great things will come from the GCN as members are highly regarded experts in their fields. In September I will be teaching “Module 9: Fostering Healing & Sustainable Environments of Care” in the Planetree Person-Centered Care Professional Certificate Program along with Randy Carter, EDAC, a close friend from our days of building Model Hospital projects!

I will be returning periodically to Intermountain Health in SLC for “tune-ups” of my meds and physical exams. I have only great things to say about the transplant itself, the follow-on care, and compassion of the caregivers.
