March Update

March is Kidney Awareness Month.

Before having a baby with ESRD, I had no idea how much our kidneys do for us! It is truly amazing how God has created our bodies so perfectly, down to a 4-in kidney!

Last week was our 2-yr transplant evaluation…It’s insane to think about how long & hard we have been working towards a transplant.

My testing is still ongoing and, all in all, a little frustrating. But they want to make sure that if I were to donate, I’d still be healthy and not have any issues that could be avoided.

Maverick is also back to “STATUS 1” – Active & receiving offers!! His Dr. told us Maverick is getting talked about a lot and comes up often. But they have rejected all offers so far because they haven’t been the quality or size he needs. It was encouraging to hear he’s pretty high on the list and getting traction!!

This weekend he got his very first call! I can’t even put into words how exciting it was. But also realizing that a deceased donor also means, that someone is has lost a family member… it’s a roller coaster of emotions for sure.

Ultimately, after 18 hours of waiting, we were told that Maverick was #3 in line for the kidney, and the 2nd person in line received the kindey. πŸ’š Again, so many emotions. Heartbreak thinking of the person who lost their life that day. Excitement for the recipient of a new kidney and a 2nd chance at life… But also knowing that night we’d be back to dialysis.

Maverick is now listed as Status 1 again. For now, we wait for clearance that I can donate or for a donor kidney call.

We are so excited for our boy that we are 1 day closer to a new kidney for him. But we also know that there will be huge adjustments & a different hard ahead of us. But we will do anything we can to give this precious boy a shot at a better quality of life.

We would love your prayers as we continue to navigate this waiting:
🦠 Maverick stays healthy
πŸ’‰ Continued stable labs
πŸ“ Tolerating new blended food trial
🀒 Less vomiting at night during dialysis
πŸ™πŸ» Patience as we wait

Thank you for praying for our family & for Maverick! We appreciate you all!

Maverick is living his best life taking care of calves, riding his razor all over and going to preschool. We couldn’t be happier and prouder of all the progress his is making!!
