Goodbye walker ✌️

7/14/2026

My had a really good night. We were still chasing some middle of the night lows. I am still doing my 48 hour diabetes management for My, so lots of up in the middle of the night for blood sugar checks, blood sugar alarms, quick bolus doses, and basal changes. Between midnight and 11am we changed the basals like 3 or 4 times. I keep saying it, but it’s so true, the tired is reminiscent or having a newborn. Every time you start to fall to a deep sleep, you’re back up. Longest stretch you’ll get is 3 hours and that’s if you are lucky.

Changes for care today: reduced feed window (encouraging more time to eat real food), changing IV and injection meds over to oral meds, taking smaller doses of intense pain meds to begin weening, clamped G-tube (no more draining, in hopes toward working on not having it)

My woke up feeling ok. Pain at a 7, which isn’t bad considering we are only 2 weeks out of surgery today(!!!) and we are weening pain meds. They had a pretty small breakfast, and then a bag of chips for snack. They have been really enjoying a Linner! Right around that 2:30-4pm mark they get hungry! Today they ate a turkey club, fruit cup, baked lays, orange sherbet, and had a 16 oz peach iced tea. They were totally fine after. Blood sugars were controlled really well with a small bolus dose for carbs.

Blood sugars were pretty good all day. They did go a little stretch without any food and started dropping. We gave them a tiny bolus dose, and they came up. I think that’s the only bolus we gave outside of a meal today. That’s definitely an improvement.

PT came by and practiced stairs with My while I was out for a little bit. (I went to the farmers market out in front of the hospital for 20 minutes with the twins.) PT took the walker! My is officially strong enough to go it alone. What a game changer. Mylin and I went down to the first floor and had a little stroll. They had no walker, no lines, no carts, nothing but their belly binder. They did awesome and I kept checking in to make sure the pace was ok. They are just ready to cruise!

My slept in a bit, but then stayed awake most of the day. We watched a Netflix crime documentary and they chatted me a bunch. It’s 7:35pm now and they are just taking a nap. They said they could feel they used energy today.

Night nurses just signed on and said we’re all set for everything until I need to call out for our 9pm sugar reading. Then starts the every 3 hours up sleepy eyed, find the phone, clumsily remember My’s passcode, find the Dexcom app and Omnipod app and get everything in check to fall asleep for just a few more hours and do it again.

    1. I can’t believe it! The surgery was just 2 weeks ago today. Yeah no lines, carts or walkers! My was ready to cruise!

  1. Wow! My’s walking so well! I’ve been catching up today on the drive home! So happy to know they are doing well! I’m so proud of you and your family! You’ve become doctors overnight!🩷
