Nationwide Children’s put us on the books to take a look at Mylin’s incision this morning. Thankfully it looked much better this morning than it did yesterday. They weren’t concerned about it but we will do a 2 week round of antibiotics just to be safe. Mylin has been doing really well with nausea so they also switched Zofran from a scheduled medication to as needed. That another good step in recovery. We also had physical therapy in the afternoon. They have given a Mylin a mild routine to start escalating physical activity. It starts with 20 minutes of walking daily, broken into 3-5 sessions, and ratchets up from there. I also calls from glute bridges and leg raises each day. At our appointment next week they will likely expand upon that regimen.

I’ve been having some blood sugar struggles for 2 days now. Nothing major but Mylin has been running high, floating around 140-150 most of the time. The goal range post TPIAT, 80-120, is stricter than the more standard 80-180 to give the transplanted islet the highest chance of staying healthy. We haven’t been doing anything different so I’m not sure why this is. My current hypothesis is that the insulin bottle got a little bit warm while in my backpack at the zoo on Saturday. I’m going to open a new bottle of insulin when we change the pump in the morning to see if I see a difference there. If I do I’ll just discard the old insulin. Its a bottle the hospital sent us home with the expires in 1 week anyway. Or maybe it’s just the age itself? Stay tuned.

Yesterday I broke down and ordered measuring cups and a kitchen scale on Amazon. Surprisingly there is not a measuring cup to found in the communal kitchen at the Ronald McDonald House. I got to use the scale for carb counting for the first time at lunch and it’s a big win. Rather than eyeballing each portion on the plate, I weighed it to get the exact grams. It’s one less of piece of guesswork while I slowly gain the skill of eye balling things. When dinner rolled around I busted it out again. Love that thing already.

It was a mellow, quiet day overall.
