I don’t know if you all are waiting on pins and needs for Peter’s biopsy results this week but we were! Peter had a heart cath and biopsy at Children’s Mercy on Tuesday this week. They took pictures of his coronaries, measured output and pressures in his heart, and extracted some heart tissue to test for rejection. And he has NO rejection! Praise the Lord! He had positive reports on all other areas regarding his heart and general health as well, so he is a healthy, thriving boy!
Peter did very well with his appointments and interacting with the medical staff. I always wonder when we go to appointments if this will be the time when Peter will realize what is coming and decide he doesn’t want it. This week was not that time. Peter was cautious but curious with the doctors and nurses. He was happy to play while they talked with me and was excited to show them his toys. He even went with them (without me) to get vitals and pick a toy from the toy closet. He was willing to let multiple people examine him, take his blood pressure, and listen to his heart. He had a little bit of trouble falling asleep in the hotel; he did not like the crib they provided.
We were first thing in the morning for his procedure, which was good because he wasn’t allowed to eat or drink before the procedure, which I’m thankful to say is something Peter loves first thing in the morning (a welcome change from his eating a year ago). He was a good sport about it.
After the procedure Peter had to lay flat for six hours, a challenge for an active two year old. To make the experience easier, Peter was treated to all the snacks, apple juice, and Signing Time videos he could want. When it was time to be released, he was ready to go and ran around his hospital room to prove his health.
