Riley has been transplanted!

Riley had her transplant yesterday. She had a rough night last night, but is able to sleep today for the most part. Riley required a blood transfusion due to her pancreas oozing badly.  It took about 4 hours to remove her pancreas which was necrotic and badly scarred.  Her islet cells came mostly from the head of the pancreas because the rest was so badly damaged. The islet cell goal was +5,000 IE/kg and they got 4,700 IE/kg from Riley.  Hopefully, that’s enough!  The goal for now is to keep Riley’s glucose stable, within 20 points, to allow those transplanted islet cells to rest. She’s in the ICU with 2 round the clock nurses whose sole job is to do just that.  I’ll keep you posted.
