Sadness and frustration- another break

Hello all,

This quick update, after such a positive update, is not what I expected to come next. Unfortunately Bianca slipped/ tripped in our front entryway and broke another bone yesterday. Normally after a bump of this kind she’ll settle down/ let it go, but that was not the case. So she and I spent five hours in the Minneapolis Children’s Emergency Department (ED) to get some good xrays and figure it out.

Bianca has a small fibia fracture and possibly her fourth metatarsal too. The ED doctor said we would be able to ask more questions about her metatarsal when we follow up with Orthopedics next Monday, but from an ED perspective, treatment is the same- she’s in a boot (which she hates) but seems to be slowly getting used to it. She’s very touchy though- every little bump brings tears. She has to keep it on outside of the bathtub, and since she’s still healing the G-tube site and has a PICC (and doesn’t really ever get dirty) and hates bathing… that only happens once or twice per week.

She’s okay though- hopefully this heals fast and she won’t be in the boot for super long.

Additionally, the WCCO news story will likely be postponed to air next week, as the reporter (and the 10pm news) will be focusing on the snowmageddon.

On another note, (long story short) Judy Gozola (Nick’s mom) was admitted on Monday to the HCMC ICU/ED for a brain bleed. She fell out of bed around 4am, but the bleeding was due to crazy hypertension, which may have been going on for a couple of days (we don’t know). For the moment, she’s intubated and mostly sedated and safe, but if you’re interested in keeping up on her, see her Caring Bridge blog: Judy Gozola Caring Bridge

Nick and I are fine, just mentally and physically exhausted, and of course anxious for answers, healing and some more normalcy.

Love,

Laura and Nick
