Transplant Day

Yesterday, Kennedy and her Aunt Kelly had their surgeries and became bonded for life.

Kennedy was in the operating room for 9 long hours. The living donor team surgeon said that Kennedy’s liver was in worse shape than expected and that Aunt Kelly came to the rescue at the right time; she’s our hero. ????

There were a few unexpected moments, but all were handled by the amazing team of surgeons. Kennedy is resting, in some pain, but already demanding a juice box and waffles. Our sweet girl can’t actually eat for 2 days, but it’s a good sign that she wants to! She’s getting more rest today, and her sassy personality is starting to shine through.

The next few days will be filled with ultrasounds and bloodwork and trying to manage her pain. The first ultrasounds of her new liver came back great. Doctors are still monitoring her portal pressure and one specific artery, but all is going well so far. She’s almost off oxygen altogether. Her nurse here is amazing and everyone from the team that has checked on her assures us that she is doing great.

Aunt Kelly is a superhero! They are trying to get her a room outside of the ICU. She handled PT this morning like a champ.????

COVID regulations gave us 5 minutes together, then down to one parent… so after the longest day ever, comes the tough days ahead. We are so grateful for your love, support and prayers to give us all the strength we need… especially for Kennedy as she finishes strong. ????????
