May was quite the crazy month for the Dorfman’s.

Kennedy gave us all a scare, as her white blood cell counts and neutrophilis were critically low. Her medication was adjusted and Eric had to give her injections at home three times a week. She had to follow up with a hematologist at Stony Brook Oncology. She tested positive for EBV (Epstein-Barr Virus), but since her levels were so low, the doctors tried to convince us not to worry yet. She had more lab work done yesterday and the results showed that the neutrophils are improving, which is a huge relief! This means she was probably fighting a virus, and less likely something scarier. However, we still need to narrow down which medications could have contributed to the neutropenia, but we are optimistic as we await the rest of her test results.

Baby CJ had to undergo a Kasai procedure to remove his gallbladder and connect his liver directly to his small intestine in hopes of extending the life of his native liver. He had some bloodwork and an ultrasound yesterday and the results will tell us if the procedure was successful enough to prolong a transplant for him.
