Health Update #4

Stetson completed his final two doses of steroid medication last week. Unfortunately, his liver enzymes remain stable and have not shown significant improvement. The treatment was rigorous, but it was essential for his health. Stetson’s behavior has changed, and he has been experiencing irritability and episodes of steroid-induced rage. He has lost interest in playing and being touched, which is uncharacteristic of his usually happy and giggly demeanor. His blood pressure is still not within the desired range set by his doctors. After a challenging weekend, Stetson had laboratory tests and a doctor’s appointment with a kidney specialist on Monday. The results showed elevated liver enzymes, bilirubin, Gamma, and white blood cells, but his bowel movements have improved with extra hydration. The kidney specialist confirmed that Stetson’s kidneys are functioning correctly, despite displaying mild bilateral hydronephrosis, a condition where the kidneys swell due to a blockage that prevents urine from draining into the bladder. The doctor increased Stetson’s blood pressure medication to address the issue. We will follow up with the kidney specialist in a few weeks. I am eagerly awaiting the day when Stetson can return to his usual happy self and experience some relief from his discomfort.
