Así como siempre compartimos las buenas noticias, hoy vamos a compartir unas no tan buenas.
A Vale le dio un ACV (infarto cerebral) y una convulsión ayer en la tarde como consecuencia del corazón de Berlín. Las válvulas del corazón de Berlín están hechas de un material que desafortunadamente aumenta el riesgo de formar coágulos y por eso le están dando anticoagulante venoso en un goteo continuo desde que le pusieron el Berlín, sin embargo hasta en un 30% de los casos los coágulos que se forman pueden viajar al cerebro y ocasionar un ACV. Lo que nos preocupa en este momento es que el area donde está el ACV no sangre (qué a veces pasa en las primeras 48 horas) considerando que todavía está en el anticoagulante y lo otro es que no pase más coágulos que vayan a ocasionar otro ACV.
Ella se ve bien y no vemos ninguna deficiencia física aparente pero no sabemos si va a tener algún problema cognitivo en el futuro (muy difícil de evaluarlo en este momento porque es una bebe). Le hicieron un electroencefalograma por 24 horas para mirar si tenia más convulsiones (el cual odió de principio a fin).
Desafortunadamente Vale ya lleva casi 6 meses en lista de trasplante en contra de todas las estadísticas (rara vez se demoran más de 4-6 meses) y eso aumenta el riesgo de complicaciones.
Cuando todo esto empezó pensamos en la posibilidad de venirnos a vivir a Gainesville para estar más cerca de Vale pero considerando todos los pros y los contras decidimos mejor estar viajando porque un cambio así en medio de tantos problemas sería muy complicado, además mi trabajo es excelente y me han ayudado muchísimo cubriéndome para yo poder estar cerca de Vale.
Para mi es imposible no tener sentimientos de rabia y desesperanza en este momento pero seguimos fuertes y unidos.

Hi everyone.
Today the news are not so good.
Valeria had a stroke and a seizure yesterday as a consequence of a small blood clot from the Berlin heart. The Berlin hart valves are made of a synthetic material that unfortunately increases the risk of blood clots (they try to prevent that from happening by an anticoagulant iv drip) in up to 30% of the patients.
What’s concerning now is the risk of bleeding inside the stroke (strokes can spontaneously bleed within the first 48 hours) especially considering that she is on blood thinners. There’s also always a risk of her having another stroke from more blood clots forming.
She is looking good and has no apparent residual physical deficits that we can see but only time will tell if she will have any cognitive issues. They did an electroencephalogram for 24 hours to check for more seizures (which she hated) and came back negative.
Vale has been in the transplant list for almost 6 months against all statistics (considering that most transplants won’t happen after 4-6 months of waiting) and the longer she is on the Berlin heart the higher the risk 1
of complications like this.
When all this started Vicky and I contemplated the idea of moving to Gainesville to be closer to Vale but in the end we decided not to do it because of my work and everything we do and like is already in Orlando. Also my friends from work have been awesome and helpful many times even taking extra shifts just so I can be with Vale and my family when things get tougher like right now (I really hope I can pay them back some day).
To me It’s next to impossible not to have any feelings of anger and hopelessness right now but we remain strong and together.
