The First Full Day with Her Whole heart

Zoe’s foster father would periodically send out text messages to Zoe’s friends, family, and her many State appointed representatives.

1pm            Hello, last night late we had the normal team rounds and again a little while ago. This is where all the attendees and experts go around to all the patients. Zoe is progressing well and as expected. She is still sedated and on a respirator. Until they get the proper balance of meds she will need. Two of her drainage tubes are no longer draining that is great news. Checked with an echo and no fluid or problems seen. All is well. Keep her in your thoughts and prayers. As we hear more I will update everyone.

Zoe, they lowered her morphine to start to wake her. Removed all but one drainage tube then took out her intubation. Zoe is now semi awake and breathing on her own. How exciting. Fever up to near 101. They are trying to adjust meds to level everything out. All looks well. Still not out of the woods but doing well. Please keep up all the thoughts and prayers. Thank you

This is Veronica, Zoe’s foster sister and the Community coordinator for COTA. As the family waited to hear updates, we learned new terms and timelines for heart transplants. Words like amolin and lung capacity became apart of each day. Rounds sound just like medical shows on tv; I was able to listen in to parts of rounds over the phone. Zoe’s hospital is a teaching hospital and rounds are when we learn a lot in a short period of time.
