Waking from a Deep Sleep and Resetting Bedtime

Determination should be Zoe’s middle name. As the doctors woke her for the first time, Zoe as a bit more aggressive than she had been for her previous operations.

This is the text Tom her foster father sent out on August 28th:

Zoe off her sedation now. Had a very long and active night last night. Became combative and confused. Lots better this am. Her medical team had her sitting up and feet over the side of the bed. The team is very happy with her progress. Today will be rough because they want her to stay awake during the day so Zoe can have a better restful sleep tonight. All your thoughts and prayers are working. Keep it up please. Thanks

We were told that these reactions were completely normal.

Then on the next day, Tom sent out:

Zoe had a very relaxing evening last night. The Drs are quite pleased with her progress. Today most of her IV lines have been removed. She dangled her legs off the bed and stood up! I got to talk with her on the phone she told me ” I feel fine, I want to come home”. The team is still keeping a close eye on her. So are we.

Balancing medications and already sitting up was surprisingly fast to me, Veronica as her sister. The idea that she would be sitting up three days after transplant is amazing.
