After last night’s overnight IVIG infusion, Bodie’s platelets jumped up to 43,000!
He’s still not at a normal range of 140,000 – 440,000 – but at least he jumped out of the critical range!
Given his robust response to the IVIG and steroids, his Hematology team at Rady’s and his Transplant team at Stanford were both comfortable with us coming HOME and monitoring him on an outpatient basis!
So we are now very happily HOME and are so excited to sleep in our own beds tonight! Bodie will be having repeat bloodwork done this Thursday and next Monday, as well as a follow up appointment with the Hematologist next Wednesday.
As long as his platelets don’t completely bottom out again, AND he doesn’t show any symptoms of internal bleeding (headache, vomiting, fever, external bleeding, etc.), we can continue to monitor him from home for now!
Our treatment plan going forward is still somewhat up in the air (it may ultimately involve changing medications and/or adding a steroid), and it will largely depend on how long he can hold onto these platelets and what his antibody labs look like (those won’t come back for a week or two). He has his annual cardiac cath and biopsy scheduled for mid-June, so our acceptable platelet range will need to be higher than usual to ensure he’s not at risk during that procedure.
In the meantime, thank you for your prayers – they’re clearly working!
And keep them coming! Please pray:
- For Bodie’s platelet counts to continue to rise and that his body can re-regulate itself without needing further intervention.
- For both Bodie and Sierra to be able to focus and complete their finals, finishing off the academic year well.
- For Bodie to be able to stay out of the hospital for finals, Sierra’s graduation and all of her graduation activities.
I am believing the Lord for Bodie staying stable and improving! “Nothing is impossible with God.”
