Evelyn has had quite the busy week so far thanks to Child Life at the Mayo! 
Yesterday, she got to meet Kayla McBride from the Minnesota Lynx and even got to play some basketball! 
And today brought another incredibly special surprise. Evelyn got to meet and listen to the amazingly talented Rachel Platten perform some of her famous songs, including Fight Song. 
It was a complete surprise to Evelyn, and honestly, the timing couldn’t have been more perfect. Lately, Evelyn has been singing karaoke “Fight Song” in her room, so hearing her sing it alongside Rachel brought tears to my eyes. There is something incredibly powerful about hearing those lyrics come from the little girl who has been fighting through so much for so long. 
We ended our afternoon by pretending to be mad scientists, because apparently meeting professional athletes and famous singers wasn’t enough excitement for one day. 
I truly cannot thank Child Life enough for the heart, creativity, time, and SOUL they pour into creating these moments for Evelyn. They find ways to bring pieces of childhood into a place where childhood can so easily get lost. They give her reasons to smile, things to look forward to, and memories that have nothing to do with medicine.
These moments may seem small to some, but to us, they mean everything.
