Biopsy Results

We waited all day and finally the liver biopsy results came back a little while ago. The biopsy showed Gavin’s liver is still in rejection, however it is less than it was when he had the biopsy done last month. The doctors here consulted with our transplant team in Pittsburgh and it was decided that even though the rejection was less, they needed to be more aggressive this time to try to knock out the rejection all together.

The plan will be to keep Gavin in the hospital to start him on IV steroids twice a day. They will also transition him off of his current anti rejection medication, Rapamune and back onto Prograf in hopes that the Prograf will work better for Gavin. The doctors will continue to monitor his labs and give the IV steroids until they are happy with his liver numbers and feel confident the rejection has been resolved. Praying this is a quick fix… it has only been a few days but we are already missing being home together as a family.
