High fever

Last night, Gavin spiked another temp of 103 and this morning an even higher one, 105.2. He was started on IV antibiotics last night and his WBC has come down to 34. The ultrasound that was done last night was clear. His respiratory panel came back positive for rhinovirus, enterovirus and adenovirus, which isn’t surprising since we all have colds. They also tested his stool for c-diff and once again it was positive. This morning he has been in a great mood despite the fever, so that is reassuring.

The plan is to continue IV antibiotics while we wait on the results of the remainder of the tests and also start an oral antibiotic for the c-diff. He will need to be fever free 24-48 hours with improving WBC count before they will consider discharging him.

With everything going on I completely forgot to tell you the good news we got the other day. We received another email from Dr. Strauss with the results of the spinal fluid that was collected in December. This fluid was to be tested for the presence of Gangliosides. We are excited to say that Gavin’s spinal fluid now has a detectable level of Gangliosides in it! Dr. Strauss was very encouraged by these results.
