Nutrition Update

Lincoln has been on continuous TPN (total parenteral nutrition – nutrition through his veins) for a few days now. This means he’s been pretty locked up in the hospital because we don’t want to take his IV pole outside. But last night the team decided to do a 22-hour infusion of TPN, so he will have 2 hours of freedom tonight! Lincoln loves being outside. It’s something him and his father do every morning and all of us as a family do every night. We think he will be so excited and so much less bored! He is gaining weight a little fast, which means it’s probably just water weight. The TPN has a good bit of fluid in it, so the team has been working to concentrate the formula so that there is less fluid and still all his nutrients for growth. That with doses of albumin and lasix are the plan to keep his weight gain to only nutritional gains. On Monday he will get another arm measurement to determine how he’s doing!

We are trying to have as much fun as we can in the hospital. We explore the hallways for windows with good views, look at the drawings on the pediatric floors, and play with equipment!
