Post-Transplant Plans

Some things Lincoln will receive after getting a transplant will be physical and occupational therapy, speech therapy, and an urology consult. PT/OT has already stopped by and expressed what their concerns would be post-transplant and how we could go about them. Lincoln has had limited tummy time due to his belly size, so his neck strength is not that of a typical 4m old. He also has not been able to even try rolling over, so once his belly is small enough to start working with, we will! He was also born 5wks early, so we have to give him some grace in terms of developmental milestones. Lincoln has laryngomalacia, so after transplant he will have speech therapy come by to assess his swallowing and make sure he isn’t aspirating. He’s been having a cough that his hepatology team thinks could be aspiration or reflux. It could be due to the pressure inside his belly, which is why we will wait to address that after surgery. Lastly, because of his ascites, Lincoln has an inguinal hernia. This will need to be repaired by urology, but we aren’t sure when that will happen. His biggest concern is the liver transplant and once his ascites is gone, the hernia should be better but will ultimately need surgery. It’s a lot to go through for such a little boy but he’s a true fighter and does it with a smile. We’re praying the rest of his first year goes smoothly so he can really start to have some fun 🙂
