2 days with a new liver… doesn’t seem real. Lincoln is doing so well and progressing as he should. He’s given us some scares, but the team assured us they are normal post-op hiccups and they have resolved everything thrown at them. Today, they removed Lincoln’s tube from his nose and weaned him off oxygen. He was able to breastfeed today and that helped soothe him a lot. His color continues to improve and his labs are improving. He’s still a little groggy and isn’t acting like himself yet, but we think it’s coming soon! He’s so strong and doing really well 💚

More details – Lincoln’s drain that is helping remove fluid from his abdomen (the surgical side) was putting out a lot of volume yesterday evening after they started a heparin drip to make sure his new blood vessels didn’t clot. While concerning, the team just knew he wasn’t ready for a blood thinner. They stopped that and gave him a blood transfusion. The drain looks much better today. Since Lincoln is on so many steroids to prevent rejection of the new liver, his blood pressure is a little high. To combat that, the providers start a medication to lower his blood pressure. Lincoln is still pretty sleepy because he’s a pain pump that the nurses control and he’s on precedex, kind of like an anxiety medication. These are keeping him calm and out of pain.
