A Set Back

So.. Lincoln’s numbers seemed to be getting better and the team was happy with how Lincoln was looking. However, around 10am Lincoln started acting weird. After advocating a lot for Lincoln’s care, physicians decided to get an xray of his chest to check his lungs. A right pleural effusion was shown, and the team thought it was some fluid from his abdomen shunting up due to pressure. They ran a blood gas and saw his pH was very low and began to be very concerned. It was so low that they needed to intubate him. That went well and when they went to drain the fluid around his lung, they found out it was blood. This caused the team to call surgery in.

Lincoln was rushed to the OR and they cleaned out around his lung and found the bleed. His diaphragm was oozing into his lung space and this finally caused him to decompensate.

The theory is that the right side of his diaphragm was weak from surgery and then his abdominal drain was rubbing on it, causing a hole. They repaired his diaphragm and then opened his abdomen again to check on everything. His liver looks good but they need to keep monitoring everything very closely. He’s intubated and has two chest tubes, but he’s stable. Please keep Lincoln in your prayers 💚
