Well, Lincoln’s time off the ventilator was short lived. His second chest tube was taken out this morning and about an hour later he decompensated similar to how he did Thursday. We noticed the chest tube site was bleeding a good bit and to protect him the PICU team intubated him. The surgery team decided to put another chest tube in to determine how much blood was in his chest cavity. Turns out, it was kind of a lot and they rushed him to the OR. They removed the blood and positioned the new chest tube so it wouldn’t pull out a clot and cause another bleed. Now he is intubated and sedated again with a chest tube. We’re hopeful this is the last time we deal with this problem so we can focus on his new liver.
