Update – September 6, 2023 – Evening

Good Evening,

We hope you all had a good day.  We want to thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers today.  Miranda’s procedures went very well.  We originally thought that they were not going to be able to take her in for the procedures until later in the afternoon, but they actually moved her up to 1:15, so that was nice.  The ENT doctor was able to go in and do the injection on her left vocal cord.  He put in a different type of gel this time and a little bit more.  He is hoping that these changes will allow it to last longer than last time.  We can already tell a difference in Miranda’s voice.  Then they did the heart catheterization and biopsy.  The doctor said that he was happy with what he saw and there was not much of a change from what he saw the last time he did a catheterization.  He said that the leakage from the tricuspid valve is about the same as it was the last time.  He also said that there was minimal fluid around her heart, so he did not have to drain any of it.  We will not have the results of the biopsy until either Thursday or Friday.  Once these results come back and if everything looks okay, then Miranda will be able to come home.  At this point the doctors do not feel that the pain that Miranda has been having is related to her heart at all, which is a good thing.

We did receive some unexpected news today.  Right after Miranda was taken in for her procedures, we received a call from someone that Tod had been around for a little bit on Tuesday saying that they tested positive for COVID today.  That means that Tod has been exposed.  So after talking to Miranda’s nurse and having her consult the infectious disease department, we decided that it would probably be best if Tod went home.  So he drove home this evening and got there around 9:00.  Lorie has worked on making arrangements for her and Miranda to make it home once Miranda is discharged.  It is unfortunate that this happened, but we felt it was probably the best thing to limit any exposure.

Thank you again for your continued support.  We truly appreciate it.
