“Turning off” ??????. Words we’ve all heard a gazillion times, but to Oakley and his family on the morning of April 11, 2023, those two words meant a huge life change ????.

Push. Dwell. Drain. Push. Dwell. Drain. Push dwell drain push dwell drain… and on and on, in hour-long cycles, for 9-16 hours. Every single night. For almost two years. That, my friends, is peritoneal dialysis. And that’s what Oakley needed since neither of his kidneys worked. But that’s what changed that April morning – Oakley’s dialysis machine was turned off for the last time, as he got prepped to get a shiny new-to-him kidney. ????????.
