Day 3 Update:

Today was pretty rough. Jake has really struggled with breathing. We spent most of the day trying to figure out why and getting his oxygen levels to stabilize. He spent the majority of the day with a heavy duty mask pushing oxygen. At one point his O2 saturation dropped into the 50s and that’s when his team came flooding in. He had multiple chest X-rays, a CT of his lungs and ultrasound of the new kidney. Everything came back clear. The team was finally able to get it under control and he is now stable and needing minimal oxygen support. He has been able to drink and eat tonight for the first time. I’ve never seen someone so excited for their own water cup.

The new kidney is working 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻and his kidney function is continually going up! He gets labs every six hours and we have seen improvement each time.

Jake is much more comfortable now that he can drink and doesn’t have the oxygen mask. We are still in the PICU, but should be able to move to a regular room tomorrow if everything remains stable.

Jake got to watch the World Cup with us and his team won! 🇪🇸 I brought his Spain jersey and laid it on him. I could tell he was feeling a little better when he started singing along at the halftime show for a minute.

  1. I’m glad that episode resolved. That must have been scary for all of you! Good news on the kidney! Are you and Michael spending your nights at the hospital? I know you have lots of support available, but please let me know if I can help. I’m pretty well trained at hospital caregiving, even over night. Love & Kisses to all of you!
