Our First COTA for Emilys Lungs Event

The first official fundraiser for COTA to Honor Emily’s Lungs was held on April 14 th. at the O.C. PaintingExperience at 15 th. Street and Coastal Highway in Ocean City, MD. We had a full house of 39 people, the max the building was allowed. What we lacked in numbers, we made up in enthusiasm.

Our O.C. Painting hosts, Ali and Jamie Jacobs, had planned a wonderful night of creating art and eating delicious foods. Jamie was the DJ and Ali and her assistant helped our attendees with painting either two wine glasses or a cheese tray. Even those who denied having an artistic talent found the help they needed to create “ART”.The evening came with a surprise announcement. Two days prior to the event, Emily underwent double lung transplant surgery, after being informed that a viable, tissue matching donation had become available. Her surgery was a complete success. The crowd went wild! A video of the crowd was taken wishing her “GET WELL” which last a full minute. It was then sent to her husband Scott for her to see.

As some guests were finishing up their art project; one lucky person won the door prize-a $50.00 gift card to a local restaurant. Emily’s volunteers explained the Silent Auction items and sold gourmet cupcakes with a chance to win a beautiful necklace. Everyone had a great night! The attendees were told that they we would be keeping them informed about Emily’s progress. The total amount raised that night was over $3,200.00. More events are currently being planned for the summer season in Ocean City, MD and into the fall. Our next event is scheduled for May 23, 2023 at Outback in West OC MD. Follow for more details.
