Haven’s surgery lasted 11.5 hours today. She is back in her room and recovering, but she will continue to be on a ventilator so her body can rest. There was extensive scar tissue to maneuver around, and small bleeds in that tissue, that extended the length of the surgery.
The surgeons went ahead with a full bovine valve replacement. They also added mesh to help protect the heart and make it easier to perform open-heart procedures in the future. The doctors hope the valve will last approximately 5-10 years, but there are many factors that can affect that number.
The great news is that the head surgeon said the valve is working really well and they are already seeing improved function on the right side of her heart! He was very pleased with the end result and thinks it will help Haven’s overall health and function.
Thank you all for the outpouring of love and support!
We love you Haven and we can’t wait to see you!!
