Our Story

As many of you know, Keagan is currently in Houston Texas waiting for a double lung transplant where he and I (mom) have been residing  and waiting since January of 2018 while his dad Robert and his sister McKenna continue to reside in Nebraska at our home. Keagan is 7 years old and has been on a ventilator and oxygen his entire life. He was born premature weighing 1 lb 8 oz and spent the first 2 1/2 years of his life between the Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and the Pediatric Invensive Care Unit (PICU) in Omaha, Nebraska before coming home for the first time on a home ventilator, with a tracheostomy, oxygen, and a gastrostomy tube (g-tube) for feeding. At this point, it has been decided by the Texas Children’s Hospital Medical Review Board and us that transplant is the best option for Keagan in order to have the type of quality of life that we want for him as he is only getting adaquate blood flow to approximatly 25-30% of his lungs due to the previous damage and scarring on his lungs. Keagan continues to remain happy and energetic despite his everyday struggle to breathe and having to haul his cart of equipment around whenever he wants to move more than 5 feet away from his current position.

You can also see more photos of Keagan and read about Keagan’s journey on his Facebook Page Keagan’s Krew: Breathin’ for Keagan.

Thanks so much for supporting COTA through Keagan S.

The Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) helps children and young adults who need a life-saving transplant by providing fundraising assistance and family support. COTA is the nation’s only fundraising organization solely dedicated to raising life-saving dollars in honor of transplant-needy children and young adults. 100% of each contribution made to COTA in honor of our patients helps meet transplant-related expenses. COTA’s services are free to our families, and gifts to COTA are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
