Sunday Update

See below for Jenna’s update from today.

We need this boy to get home!  I went to thier house today to feed the cats.  One of the cats is in hiding.  The other, shown behind Alex in the picture below, cried (or maybe it was yelling at me) the whole time I was there.  We tend to forget how our absence affects our pets, too.

Alex is having a decent day, vitals have been good. Labs are the same as yesterday, it’ll take a few days for the steroids to kick in and start improving. His pain was worse this morning but better now. He’s a little more swollen so they’ll give more diuretics and Dr Hong is hopeful they can close tomorrow. Surgery will likely be at 730.
They also started a third immunosuppressant, everolimus, in addition to the IV steroid and tacrolimus.
Obviously, that is a lot of immunosuppression and Alex will be very immunocompromised for a long time. This unfortunately means we won’t be able to see really any family or friends this summer, and those that we can see will have to remain VERY quarentined indefinitely. I’ve seen my kid on a ventilator enough the last 2 weeks, we just aren’t going to take any chances of him getting sick once he heals from this.
Hopefully tomorrow they can extubate after surgery and he can get onto healing, and work towards getting home with his cats and brother ????
