May Check up / Hospital Stay

Rafe had a doctors appointment Tuesday with his doctor in OKC. It was his first time for labwork since removing his PICC line. He had a really hard time with that and had to be stuck three times. Hopefully time will heal those fears and drawing blood won’t be so rough.

The labs looked great and his doctor was pleased. He had lost a little weight but they weren’t too concerned with that because he had stopped steroids since the last visit. Overall, it was a good report. He has a bump on his lip that we weren’t sure what it was so the doctor sent us home to watch it closely.

The next evening, we noticed the bump looking more like a blister. We called Dr. Palle’s office Thursday morning and they wanted him to be admitted to get IV antibiotics for a few days. We are at OU Children’s now and will hopefully be able to go home within the next couple of days. They did a culture of the blister/bump on his lip but we haven’t got those results back yet. The bump is looking better today. His INR (a liver number) was slightly elevated as well so they gave him a dose of vitamin K today. The doctor said the number was hardly elevated and nothing to worry about.

Other than his lip, he feels great. We are hoping for him to continue to heal and be able to take him home soon. We are so thankful for the promptness of his medical team and the wonderful staff taking care of him and getting him well.
